Spotlight Athlete – Zuli!

Zuli is chosen as May’s Spotlight Athlete  because she is an inspiration to so many. She lights up every room—whether it’s bright and early at 6am or during evening classes. Her work ethic and dedication to her goals are truly remarkable. Showing up and putting in the effort, regardless of motivation, is the real definition of commitment, and she embodies that every day. We have had the privilege of watching her compete in multiple Hyrox events, and her dedication to training is nothing short of inspiring. She brings joy to every class, always adding her own flavor and spice! Zuli motivates those around her and consistently demonstrates incredible sportsmanship. I’m truly honored to coach and work out alongside her. She never complains and always shows up with a positive attitude. We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next!

What do you do for work?

I’m a Sales & Training Executive covering the Northeast (Boston & Rhode Island) and also an Apothecary Executive with Chantecaille Cosmetics.

What would you like us to know about you and your family?

Family means everything to me. I’ve been with my husband Nello for 16 years—he is truly my everything, and we do pretty much everything together. My family keeps me grounded and motivated every day.

Most of my family lives in Puerto Rico, which is very special to me. I have one sister who lives in San Antonio, Texas, and another sister who lives in Puerto Rico. I really value my friendships and the people around me, and I have a dog named Brutus who is a big part of our lives. Overall, I try to create a loving, supportive, and positive environment both at home and in everything I do.

What is one thing that we may not know about you?

One thing people may not know about me is that I’m naturally very nurturing. I truly enjoy taking care of the people around me—whether it’s supporting my team, my friends, or my family. It’s something that really defines who I am.

I’ve also played basketball pretty much my entire life. I used to play professional basketball in Puerto Rico and was part of the national team. Basketball has taught me discipline, teamwork, and resilience, and those qualities shape how I show up in both my personal and professional life every day.

How long have you been training and what time do you typically train?

I’ve been training at Cynergy for a few years now. I typically train at 6:00 AM, but I also really enjoy the 9:15 AM and 5:15 PM classes. My schedule can vary, so I usually attend different class times depending on the day.

What is your favorite lift and why?

My favorite lift is the hang power clean. I love it because it’s a full-body movement that builds power, speed, and strength all at once. It really works my hamstrings, glutes, and back, and I love how it challenges my coordination too—it keeps me sharp and strong.

I’ve had some back issues in the past, and this lift has actually helped me build more strength and stability over time. Everything is still a work in progress for me, but I really enjoy the process and getting better every day.

What is your favorite WOD and why?

My favorite WOD is Murph. I love it because it’s both physically and mentally challenging—it really pushes you to stay strong and focused the entire time. It’s not just about strength, but also endurance and resilience.

I also enjoy running, so that part of the workout is something I really connect with.

I love the meaning behind Murph too—it’s more than just a workout. It’s about honoring something bigger than yourself, and that always gives me an extra push to keep going.

What are your current life goals?

My current life goals are to continue growing both personally and professionally while staying grounded in what matters most to me. I’m focused on becoming stronger—physically and mentally—while continuing to challenge myself through training and new experiences.( Hyrox) 😉

At the same time, I want to keep building a meaningful life with my family and the people around me, creating balance, staying consistent, and continuing to grow into the best version of myself.

What is your most memorable time as athlete?

My most memorable time as an athlete was when I played for the national team of Puerto Rico. If you know me, you know I’m very Puerto Rican, so it was such an emotional and proud moment for me. discipline, and sacrifices came together in that experience.

Representing my country is something I will always carry with me—it truly shaped my mindset and who I am today.

Any additional comments:

I’m truly so grateful to be chosen. It means a lot to be surrounded by so many amazing athletes who show up every day, put in the work, and continue to push themselves to become a better version of who they are. That energy is everything.

A big thank you to all the coaches—showing up everyday , bringing the motivation, and pushing us even when we don’t think we have it in us. What we do as athletes is not easy, and having that kind of support makes all the difference.

And to my morning class athlete friends—no matter what class I show up to, thank you for always putting up with me… my loudness, my craziness, and yes, all my dance moves 💃😂. You guys make every class so much more fun and special.

I’m truly grateful to be part of this community.
