Spotlight Athlete – Shaun O’Hearn

Since Shaun joined Cynergy he has been an enthusiastic member of the gym … up for anything and willing to put work in to improve his skills.  He is extremely coacheable, willing to listen and ask questions about movement and the intentions of the workout.  He has been a bright spot in the evening classes as well as a great partner for the Saturday partner wods.  Congrats on being named athlete of the month, Shaun!  Well deserved.

What do you do for work?

I work for my family owned company as an alarm technician. 

What would you like us to know about you and your family?

I have a loving and supportive wife and two boys who are 10 and 12. They were born on the same day two years apart. 

What is one thing that we may not know about you?

I love the 80’s. My wife accepted my one request that our walkout song at our wedding be Hulk Hogans theme song, I am a real American.

How long have you been CrossFitting?    One year.

 What time do you typically train? 5:15 pm

What is your favorite lift and why?

Deadlift. I have had back problems since I was young and it makes my body feel better. 

What is your favorite WOD and why?

There’s so many to choose from. I like the partner wods and anything that involves deadlifts. 

What are your current life goals?

Five years ago I started having issues with sciatica. My current life goal is to achieve freedom from the discomfort that comes with this condition.

What is your most memorable time as a CrossFitter?

The open last year was an eye opener. I don’t think I have ever pushed myself quite like that. 

How has CF impacted your life outside of the box?

CrossFit and the Cynergy community have become something that gives me so much joy. This past holiday season I took a long break from working out and I got into a bit of a slump mentally. It made me realize how much I truly depend not only on working out but the community and support that cynergy provides is huge. This quote has resonated with me lately “get out of your mind and get into your body.”
