Greg is chosen as member of the month because he has been such an eager, enthusiastic member of the community. Greg shows up, puts in the work, and really works on making himself a better athlete and overall motivated human. His growth is evident, and his whole family is such a great addition to the Cynergy family. Congratulations Greg!
What do you do for work?
I am the managing partner of a small tax practice, SmartBooks Tax & Advisory. As a CPA I
focus primarily on small business and individual tax preparation and tax planning.
What would you like us to know about you and your family?
We are an easy going, relaxed family where everyone can be themselves. We always laugh that
when people come over they typically don’t want to leave.
What is one thing that we may not know about you?
I talk a lot about swimming in college since that activity aligns more with crossfit but very few
people outside of my circle know that I am an avid golfer. I’ve had my handicap as low as a 2
but unfortunately that has trended up over the last few years.
How long have you been CrossFitting?
Since January of 2023.
What time do you typically train?
I am all over the place, but some combination of morning classes.
What is your favorite lift and why?
The Snatch. It’s the most challenging for me which drives me even more to get better at it.
What is your favorite WOD and why?
Being so new to the sport, I’ve only done a relatively small number of WOD’s but one saturday
morning we did The Don.
For time:
66 Deadlifts, 110 pounds
66 Box jump, 24 inch box
66 Kettlebell swings, 1.5 pood
66 Knees to elbows
66 Sit-ups
66 Pull-ups
66 Thrusters, 55 pounds
66 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball
66 Burpees
66 Double-unders
This one was as much a mental battle as a physical one which I really appreciated.
What are your current life goals?
Physically: Fit at 40. The goal is to ultimately build a sustainable healthy lifestyle. I’m 36 now
Professionally: Grow my tax practice to $1M in annual revenue
Personally: To be more present throughout my day
What is your most memorable time as a CrossFitter?
In the short time I have been a crossfitter, my most memorable moment was during the 23.3
Open workout. I was going through it a second time because I knew I had more to give after the
first try. Not only did I do better but I went way further than I thought I would. I had several
members around me cheering me on which felt really cool. One member (I think it was Rob) told
*yelled at* me to “put my life into the bar” which for some reason has really stuck with me. Now
whenever I get tired I think about that phrase
How has CF impacted your life outside of the box?
Cynergy has impacted my life in more ways that I can describe here. Before I became a member
at Cynergy, I found myself going through the motions of daily life and I had this fear of being
the typical overweight middle aged dad just living for the weekend. The discipline to
consistently show up each day at class continues to spill into the rest of my life. It’s also been
really great to simultaneously take this journey with my wife, Sarah, who is absolutely killing it.
I think the biggest impact is how this lifestyle has impacted our children. Both of our kids have
started to mimic our lifestyle changes. They make healthier food choices, they are more
confident, and have even started their own crossfit journey. By showing up everyday and trying
to be an example, I truly feel that we are given them the best foundation to succeed in life.
How would you best describe Cynergy to others?
It’s a group of people with a common goal to be the best version of themselves and for whom I
have the utmost respect for.
Any additional comments:
I just want to say thank you to all the coaches but specifically Cindy, Larry, Heather, Emily, and
Charlene. Thank you for all of your patience and for going out of your way to support me in
becoming a better athlete.
