SPOTLIGHT ATHLETE – ANNA DUNBAR

Congratulations to Anna Dunbar for being nominated for the athlete of the month for July!  For those of you who do not know her, she is a regular at the 5am class.  She is more than deserving of this recognition because she has such a positive impact for her fellow athletes in the class.  Anna’s sunny disposition is contagious amongst the morning athletes, she is always smiling and encouraging of her peers.  She is a tremendously hard worker and competitor as well, PR’ing left and right and getting stronger every week.  She is becoming not only one of the most friendly faces in the gym, but one of the better athletes.  Well deserved Anna!

What do you do for work?
I’m the Executive Director of a non-profit called the Innovation Trail, which highlights the many
innovations to come out of Boston and their global impact – we are the most innovative city in
the US!
I am also the Director of Operations and trainer/coach at 110 Fitness in Rockland, the largest
wellness center in the world for people with Parkinson’s Disease. We provide holistic wellness
programming to help people with Parkinson’s live their best lives- this includes exercise classes
as well as support groups, education series, and community outings. I feel very honored to be a
part of this community and to do this work!

What would you like us to know about you and your family?
I have a beautiful three year old daughter, Juliette, who is my heart center and helps me grow
every single day. I also have an incredible support system in my mom and two sisters (I’m the
middle child) who all live nearby. We talk in movie quotes and can often be found eating great
food, laughing, singing, and dancing.
What is one thing that we may not know about you?
I have jumped out of an airplane! I did a tandem skydive (at Hanson airport!) and it was
absolutely one of the best experiences of my life – the freefall was unlike anything I have ever
experienced.

How long have you been CrossFitting?
Just over a year! I started my Crossfit journey at Cynergy in April 2023 and I could not be more
grateful.

What time do you typically train?
5am baby! Rise and shine! We are…unwell.

What is your favorite lift and why?
This is a tough one but I think the split jerk. This was a brand new movement for me when
starting Crossfit and I love the power of it.

What is your favorite WOD and why?
One of my favorite WODs was Coach Marc’s workout. I love box jumps and DUBs. I also love
any WOD with some running!

What are your current life goals?
I want to continue to grow as a trainer, coach, and yoga instructor (I’m a 200hr RYT). I want to
go on lots of fun adventures and travel with my daughter and my family. I also want to continue
to get stronger at Crossfit! I would love to master many of the Crossfit movements including a
full HSPU, and a muscle up. My goal is to one day be able to regularly hit the RX button in
SugarWOD.

What is your most memorable time as a CrossFitter?

I really loved the AM/PM comp and participating in the Open this year. The community and
camaraderie during both was so fun. The support everyone gives each other is so incredible
and I’m so grateful for it.

How has CF impacted your life outside of the box?
Cynergy and Crossfit has impacted my life profoundly outside of the box. Cynergy is what finally
made me feel like my old self again after becoming a mom. The coaches at Cynergy and the
community have given me back my drive to constantly push myself and better myself in every
single way. The friends I have made at Cynergy have become a huge part of my life and are a
part of my village and support system for me and my daughter. Cynergy and Crossfit have
helped me become a better coach and teacher as well. I am inspired and motivated every single
day by this amazing community.
