Member Spotlight: Colleen Florence

Congratulations to August Member of the Month, Colleen Florence!
Colleen is a great example of consistency and hard work…and it certainly shows in her performance!
She is dedicated to her training…and even with her busy schedule she makes time for herself.  Always a pleasure to have her in the box.  A great competitor and support to her fellow athletes.

Thank you Colleen for exemplifying what it’s all about!  A very well deserved honor!!

What do you do for work?
– I’m an Emergency Room Nurse and also a consultant for Rodan and Fields Skincare.

What would you like us to know about you and your family?
– Casey (another member of Cynergy) and I have been married 4 years this July. We actually met at an Emergency Room (fire fighter meets Nurse) We have two daughters, Abigail and Isabelle who many see and tolerate their antics during gym hand offs, that may not always go as smoothly as planned. We have the BEST chocolate lab, Bruce who is the greatest dog we could have asked for especially with the girls. We live locally in Bridgewater.

What is one thing that we may not know about you.
– At birth, I turned blue 3x losing precious minutes of oxygen each time. Doctors warned my parents I may not be exactly “normal” developmentally and to just go home and love me. WELL here I am folks! But maybe explains why I’m so accident prone and a clutz! It’s not my fault people!

How long have you been CrossFitting?
– 7.5 years

What time do you typically train?
– oh man lately It’s a guess for me. 9am and 530pm are most typical. Sometimes when my sister convinces me you will see me at 5a 🤦🏼‍♀️ and off hr times when I can sneak away thanks to family that understand my need for the gym!

What is your favorite lift and why?
-OHS… they’re just so fun! I LOVE squatting and I’ve just always gravitated towards wods with them part of it.

What is your favorite WOD and why?
Nancy: 5 rounds 400m run 15 OHS 95#

What are your current CF goals?
Technique with everything. I feel that I’m stuck at most 1RM and if I focus in and change some things numbers will start to increase. Also get my ring MU AGAIN! (Which also is tech problem)

What are your current life goals?
– Obtain certifications as a nurse. CEN first on the list. Let’s open that book up.
– Travel and start really having fun as a family of 4, watching our two girls grow up and like each other (haha maybe?!) it’s easy to be ships passing in the night with Casey and my schedule. Recognizing you need to make time for yourself, your relationship as husband and wife and your family is important. “Don’t be so busy making a living that you forget to make a life” – mother in law reminds us of this often! Time to start listening.

What is your most memorable time as a CrossFitter?
– my first ring MU. Cindy and I had been working together, I was doing drills, going to gymnastics clinics and still I was struggle city! Finally one day I got one, with Cindy right in front of me to witness. I literally came down from rings and JUMPED on Cindy like OMG OMG!! (Now 2 baby’s later I need to get those suckers back)

How has CF impacted your life outside of the box?
– CrossFit keeps me healthy: Mentally and physically. Honestly I NEED the gym in my life. It makes me a happier person. I can have a horrible shift at work or what seems like a never ending day w my girls and just given one hour at Cynergy and I feel ALIVE again. Like the reset button was hit and I can start or end the day BETTER! I’ve also never been so happy with myself and my body in my life! Who would have thought married, post two kids (who are 1 and 3) that I’d confidently take my shirt off and rock a sports bra.

How would you best describe Cynergy to others?
– Cynergy is my happy place. It’s something my husband and I enjoy together and a healthy thing to have our children around. Cynergy members are “my people”. 4 years ago we had 20+ people from the gym come to our wedding. (How many people can say that?) yes it’s a gym, you sweat you workout and you hope you did enough to eat Friday night pizza… but it’s more than that. It’s the bday parties, pool parties, get togethers all which stemmed from meeting some pretty kick ass people that you sweat and say “why am I doing this to myself” with.
