Coaches Spotlight: Coach Alannah Vargus

Today we recognize and acknowledge Coach Alannah Vargus.  A quiet yet fierce competitor who is as humble about her athletic accomplishments as she is about the work she does in her other job as a first responder. You can always find her working on her training whenever she can fit it in and yet always has time to stop and help an athlete with a movement or setting them up with a workout during open gym. An incredible addition to our coaching staff and I am so appreciative of her time and attention to the athletes she coaches. Today we honor Alannah with her signature WOD.  A workout that screams Alannah!  🙂

Getting to know Alannah….

What brought you to Cynergy?
I saw one of my friends post on his Facebook about signing up for foundations and asked him about it, he said it was awesome when he tried it so I signed up and never looked back 🙂

How long have you been a CrossFitter and Coach?
I’ve been CrossFitting for almost 7 years coaching for almost 4.

What is your athletic background?
I played soccer for most of my life on competitive club and travel teams, track in high school and a couple years of soccer at the collegiate level.

What would you say is the best part of being a CrossFit Coach?
Teaching people new skills and seeing them develop as athletes. I’ll never get tired of seeing someone finally get the hang of something and have the honor of being apart of there athletic journey.

What advice would you give to a new athlete?
Be consistent. Its hard but showing up and putting in the work will move you leaps and bounds.

And, a veteran athlete?
Never stop learning, you can always get better at something even learning new ways of doing something you might think your an expert at.

What are your current goals as a Coach?
Learn more about aerobic capacity and fine tune coaching gymnastics movements.

And, as an athlete?
Get more fit 🙂

What is your favorite movement to Coach
I love coaching the Olympic lifts snatch and clean and jerk

What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?
I’m a huge fan of the great British Baking TV show, and baking is my favorite thing besides CrossFit

How would you describe the Cynergy Community?
I would have to say the Cynergy community is made up of some of the most amazing groups of people I’ve had the pleasure of being apart of.

What are some of your favorite or most memorable moments as a Coach?
A memory from months ago was when Ashley got bar muscle ups, she had been frustrated with them and I learned how to spot them so we practiced with me spotting her and then I had her try without me and she nailed it!
Bruce hitting a 30 lbs PR on his overhead squat also comes to mind, I remember when he had to do the PVC pipe but he stuck with them and now he’s repping out 95lbs like a champ. It’s awesome seeing how far people have come.
