Athlete’s Spotlight: Haley Govoni

Congratulations to Haley Govoni, Cynergy CrossFit’s Athlete Spotlight for October!

What do you do for work?
I’m a Nurse practitioner, I work with patients who have advanced heart failure.

What would you like us to know about you and your family?
I live in Hanson with my boyfriend Chris and my furbaby Koda. My family lives on the North Shore so I spend as much time there as I can.

What is one thing that we may not know about you.
I’m relatively new to the South shore so please share any and all restaurant/activity recommendations. I’ve eaten a lot of bar pizza thus far.

How long have you been CrossFitting?
On and off for about 5 years. I first joined a CrossFit gym when I moved to North Carolina for work and knew no one, it was the community I needed during that time.

What time do you typically train?
I recently switched over to the dark side of 5:15 pm.

What is your favorite lift and why?
Deadlifts used to be my favorite but now I’m old and my back hurts. Cleans have become my new favorite, I love how the lift feels when you get the mechanics right.

What is your favorite WOD and why?
This is hard, but I love Murph, not necessarily the workout itself but what it stands for and coming together as a gym on Memorial day is always fun.

What are your current CF goals?
Be consistent.

What are your current life goals?
Do some volunteer nursing in another country, and of course traveling would be nice. I’ve always wanted to eat pizza and drink wine in Italy.

What is your most memorable time as a CrossFitter?
I participated in a local hero WOD of a young soldier who died serving her country, the workout included a mile run where we passed her fathers house, her dad was sitting on his porch and we all got to hug him or shake his hand during the run. It was a reminder of how fortunate we are that we “get” to do these workouts rather than “have” to.

How has CF impacted your life outside of the box?
I think for me as well as many other people, CrossFit is my stress relief. There are many days when work has been pretty terrible or I am stressed out and no matter what, after a workout I am a better person and have a more positive outlook.

How would you best describe Cynergy to others?
I first started by doing drop ins at Cynergy when I was in the area and everyone was so friendly and welcoming, this is definitely not the case at every CrossFit so that was awesome. I also almost threw up my first drop in so it was a good workout.
