Athlete Spotlight: Emily Ryan

Congratulations to Emily Ryan, Cynergy CrossFit’s Athlete Spotlight for November! Emily is very dedicated to her training and is constantly working to improve. Her positive attitude is infectious and you always find her encouraging her fellow athletes. She is an amazing athlete and an even better person. Congratulations Emily!

What do you do for work?
I am an administrative assistant at Bridgewater State University, in the Operations Division. I have been working there for nine and a half years.

What would you like us to know about you and your family?
Family is extremely important to me and I am grateful to have such an amazing and supportive family. I started here at Cynergy because my stepfather (Lonnie) and both my stepsisters (Steph and Becca) enjoyed it so much and spoke so highly of the members and community. I am also eager to brag about my two adorable nephews who make being an Auntie my favorite thing in the world!

What is one thing that we may not know about you.
Anyone who has talked to me for more than five minutes knows I love animals (even bugs😊), but many may not know that I am a Herring Warden for the Herring Fishery Commission in Middleboro/Lakeville.

How long have you been CrossFitting?
I started at Cynergy in February 2018, attending the ALF classes.

What time do you typically train?
I train at the 7:30am classes

What is your favorite lift and why?
I really like hang cleans. Not really sure why 😊

What is your favorite WOD and why?
I really like the memorial WODs, the energy is different in the box and so many people would show up (before COVID ☹) and kick butt! They are always super tough, but in the end I feel so accomplished and proud to be apart of it! This year the 9/11 WOD really hit me.

What are your current CF goals?
I really want to improve my hand-stand push-ups and to be able to do more than one strict pull-up.

What are your current life goals?
I am currently working towards my dream job as an Environmental Police Officer. I will be finishing my masters degree in May and will hopefully be on the EPO civil service list before then.

What is your most memorable time as a CrossFitter?
While some of my most memorable achievements include finally getting double unders and slowly learning to love running, my most memorable times were made laughing with the 7:30 crew 😊

How has CF impacted your life outside of the box?
CrossFit has improved my life all around. Along with physically feeling stronger and overall in better shape, I feel happier and less stressed after each workout.

How would you best describe Cynergy to others?
Cynergy is so welcoming and supportive. There are so many amazing members and coaches to help along the way and cheer you on. It is very much a family and I would encourage everyone to just try it out!

Any additional comments:
One thing that has bothered me since starting CrossFit is the 21-15-9 descending ladder. While I like descending ladder workouts, why can’t it be 20-15-10? Not sure if anyone else feels that way, but I wanted to take this opportunity to get it off my chest. 😊
