HOW MUCH DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE FOODS WE BUY AT THE SUPERMARKET?

By Holly | June 28, 2009

This may be right in line with our Paleo Challenge! Some of you may have heard of this movie, which premiered June 12th, called FOOD, INC.

This is a disturbing portrait of how the food we eat in America has become deceptively prefabricated. Word has it that this documentary by Robert Kenner is raw and graphic, but I think we will find it to be brilliantly eye-opening and in line with our newfound eating habits. It discusses and connects the dots of how everything we’ve done in modern agriculture is to grow it faster, fatter, bigger and cheaper. AND how so much of our “food” comes from rearrangements of CORN.

“Food, Inc. shows how the use of high-fructose corn syrup in almost every supermarket product is part of the same system that masses chickens in concentration-camp coops, where they’re bred for their oversize, flavorless white meat” (Owen Gleiberman)

You can see this movie now at the following theaters:

Brookline, MA: Coolidge Corner Theatre
Waltham, MA: Embassy Cinema
Cambridge, MA: Kendall Square Cinema
North Falmouth, MA: Nickelodeon Cinema 5 (beginning 7/5)
Dennis, MA: Cape Cinema (beginning 8/7)

Date night anyone?

Just finished reading “Omnivore’s Dilemma” (which I borrowed from Keith and Cindy no less) and it speaks to these same topics. I highly recommend reading that as well. Well written and highly informative.
